Remember the Cookie War between Barbara Bush and Hilary Clinton back in the day? This is the recipe that Hilary pitted against Barbara . I dont agree with her politics but, let me tell ya- she can bake a mean cookie! These are delicious!
1 1/2 cup flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
2 eggs
2 cups old fashioned oats (this varies on how fine the oats are cut. With cheaper brands I use about one cup of oats.
One pkg (12 ounces) semi sweet chocolate chips (2 cups)
In large bowl combine flour, salt, and baking soda. Cream in another bowl the shortening, brown sugar, white sugar, vanilla and lastly add the eggs. Add oats. Fold flour mixture into wet mixture and add chocolate chips. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or till golden brown at 350 degrees
