Cherry Squares

One of the Best. I lost this recipe a few years back and a frantic search on the net brought it back home to me. I think this was a Pillsbury Winner way back when...

2 1/2 - 3 cups flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp salt
1 package yeast
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup water
2 eggs
1 can pie filling- your choice. Cherry is great but so is strawberry and blueberry too

In large bowl combine 1 1/2 cups of the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Blen together. Heat milk, water and margarine to 120-130 degrees. Add liquid to yeast/flour mixture and mix. Add eggs and mix 3 min or so. By hand stir in additional 1 to 1/2 cups flour. Cover with plastic wrap and cloth and let rise in warm place till doubled about 45 minutes.

Grease 13 by 9 pan. Pat 2/3 dough in pan and pat down with greased hands. Spoon pie filling over top of dough. Plop spoonfulls of remaining dough over top of pie filling. Let rise again 20-25 minutes. Bake 35o for 35-45 minutes till nice and brown.

Drizzle with powdered sugar mixed with milk.
