Amish Cookies

Many years ago we were driving through Missouri and we stopped at an Amish bakery. I will never forget the cheese bread that we bought there. It melted in my mouth and was heavenly. Any cooking that is Amish cooking is incredible! I dont know if these are truly Amish but they should be because they are so awesome!!!

1 cup sugar
1 cup 10x (powdered) sugar
1 cup butter
1 cup vegetable oil
2 eggs
4 1/2 cup flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp cream of tartar ( I substituted baking powder)
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla

Mix together sugars in large bowl. Cream in butter then add vegetable oil. Beat in eggs one at a time and add vanilla.

Mix together flour, salt, cream of tartar and baking soda. Add flour mixture to wet ingredients mixing by hand until all flour is incorporated. Roll dough into walnut size balls and place on cookie sheet. You can leave them as is or press down with the tine of a fork as you would do to peanut butter cookies. Another option would be to press them down with the bottom of a glass or leave them to spread on their own. If you like your cookies more sweet you can sprinkle a bit of sugar on the top of each before baking.

Bake 350 10-12 minute depending on if you like them soft or more crisp. Either way they are delish! Get your glass of milk ready! Makes about 36 cookies.
